OPENING DAY – Welcome to Berkeley! Information about English classes, public libraries, adult education classes, transportation, recreation and more will be available. Come, meet new friends and ask questions.

CALIFORNIA OUTDOORS: Places to go in the bay area for hiking, picnics, or camping. Let’s share ideas about foods to be eaten away from home. If you like, please bring something to taste.

September 7
HIP-HOP FUSION – Jenny DeRuntz will lead us in some cool and awesome dancing.

AMERICAN BRUNCH – An informal combination of breakfast and lunch is a popular way to enjoy a leisurely time with friends.

WELCOME RECEPTION FOR INTERNATIONAL SPOUSES AND PARTNERS – University Village and Berkeley International Office join us with information and representatives from campus and community resources to help you make the most of your stay. Light refreshments will be provided.

FALL MIGRATION – Birds, butterflies and even whales move south for the winter. Learn about some good places to observe our winter visitors.

YWCA STUDENT LEADERS PRESENT OUR PROGRAM about good food and healthy eating. Tasting provided.

DAY OF THE DEAD – Many cultures remember and honor ancestors and friends who are no longer living. Mexican and Central American traditions are celebrated in the Bay Area.

HALLOWEEN : October 31 is a favorite American holiday. Come to the Centre today in a costume! Learn about the origin of Halloween and “trick or treating”. Carve a jack o lantern or make a mask.

NAMES & BIRTHDAYS – How was your name decided? How do you celebrate birthdays? Are certain years important: 1, 7, 13, 15, 18, 21, 60, and 80?

THANKSGIVING – A traditional American Thanksgiving Dinner includes turkey, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and pumpkin pie. Learn to prepare these foods and have a taste.
